On the Ground and Running

Sorry for the one day delay in blogging. We arrived in San Jose and immediately got busy getting aquainted with the area. Soon after landing, it started to rain and didn't end till the middle of the night. We met our wonderful hosts, Rodney and Cindy and their assistants, Rebecca and Holli. They all made us feel welcome and a part of the ongoing effort here in mere minutes.

We attended the Vineyard church about 10 minutes away and ran tot he building in torrents of rain. Hundreds of people braved the weather to worship and hear the message. Amanda understood EVERYTHING, but the rest of us worked with bits and pieces -- another reminder that God is worshiped by all people in all languages and he understands every word of adoration. God spoke and many people came forward for prayer.

Back home last night to a meal that was soooo good I best not share it so that no one thinks we're on vacation. Suffice it to say that no Hispanic restaurant in the US has anything on Cindy's cooking!

This morning we awoke very early and after breakfast started a Bible study together through the Beatitudes. You might want to check on Matthew with us and learn at the same time. We were all challenged to be "poor in spirit", which took us into a morning of ministry. We walked in two groups through a very poor area called Los Anonos and spent time talking with people and trying to assess need. The ladies met with a couple caring for a handicapped child and I think were forever changed by the experience. Though they had nothing, their hospitality was beyond what they had and the ladies wer very touched.

The men ran into a young guy that Rodney knew. He is a Christian named Jason, struggling in his walk and fighting a crack cocain addiction. Last Sunday he had be stabbed with an ice pick and it is now infected badly and swollen. The hospital would do little for him since he does not have the "right papers". The infection is so bad that we are taking him to the emergency room this afternoon and trying to guilt someone into helping him. Another man came up to us and told us that he was willing and ready to finally go to rehab. Have you guessed yet that addictions are a huge problem here. Start praying hard all my friends who have been in that place and have been delivered!

We were able to identify a couple of work projects that we will start tomorrow. The extra $700 provided through donations to our team will help to cover the costs! The guys have gone out to work on what we'll need to get those jobs done.

Tonight we'll be in a Pentacostal Church down the street. We have been told that they will expect us to share what God has for them through us! Exciting! We're depending on God.

More tomorrow and hopefully a photo once we get that part working. If there are typos - igmore them, the computer proofs for spanish spelling!!
